You should walk

One weekend last month, I was returning home after completing some banking work in the morning. As I was nearing home, I saw a neighbor coming along in the opposite direction. It had been quite a few months since we met and so I waited after greeting him. He returned my wave of my hand with his own and then stopped near me.

This maamaa is a tall and well-built person, so you do feel a little small (both in age and size) near him. He started talking and the conversation (Tamizh portions translated) went like this:

Tall maamaa: I will tell you this. You should walk. What time do you leave for office?
Me: Around 7:30-45 (It was a lie because I knew his next query would be around when I get up)
T.m: Then you wake up at least by 6:30 (Told you he’d hit that sour point) and walk for some half-an-hour.
Me: Yes yes, I am trying.
T.m: I know you are all hard working (forgive him; elder people tend to generalize) and it is difficult. But why I am saying this is because you all are sitting all day long and need some exercise.
Me: yes maamaa, I will definitely try to walk.
T.m: Otherwise, how are things? Is Amma fine? I was out of town for 2 months.
Me: Oh, that’s why I didn’t see you.
T.m: Yes yes. I came back only last week. Ok, I will go to the Bank before it gets hotter.

He then walked away. So, here is this old man, who is meeting me after almost 2 months and the first thing he tells me is “You should walk”. And this is even before exchanging pleasantries and complaining about the weather. Even as I wondered what the world had come to, I then realized where the problem was.

It was the shirt I was wearing. It was a stiff material and kind of stuck around my mid-riff, more stuck than how INC is with Rahul Gandhi. It obviously irked him to the extent that he jumped right to the topic.

Subsequent to that conversation I took necessary action. The shirt is now hidden in the far reaches of my cupboard.

Random Observation # 040

Everyone is talking about an increase in cases of over-weight or obese people in the human race.
Everyone is also talking about an increase in Global warming.

Going with basic laws of Physics we all know that cold contracts and heat expands.

Increased Global Warming only means that the heat has increased. Which means things start expanding. That's probably why obesity is also on the increase in the human race.

Random Jotting # 019

All of us store data in our computers in a totally different manner. Some of us delete even official mails while some of us don't delete even junk mail!

Does this behaviour have some correlation to our eating habits / metabolism etc.?

I am above weight and I constantly run out of space in my mailbox. Would a person who is under weight, ever face such a problem?

Me exercising

Not many of you know about it, but last Sunday, I placed an order for an Afton Treadmill. It was one of the semi-automatic ones and it cost me around 25K.

Its semi-automatic because, the incline feature has to be set manually.

The equipment was delivered on Tuesday evening. I have been using everyday since then.

Since I am exercising after a very proloooooooooooonged break, I am taking it easy now. Today, I used one of the preset programs on it which went on for 16 minutes. 16 minutes of walking, jogging, sprinting - not necessarily in that order and in fact well mixed up.

If I can sustain this initial enthu, then I can sure as hell meet my target of coming down to 75Kg by the end of August.

Weight loss

Just wanted to let the world (read: the 5 poor souls who happen to read this blog) know, that I have set a target of 5 Kilos as the weight that I am going to lose in the next 40 days.
i.e. I hope the scale reads 75 Kg on Aug 31.
Please wish me all the good luck I need to achieve this. Needless to add, please try to motivate me.

Random Jotting # 009

My office is actually working today and in fact I am posting this from work (There is always a first time for everything).

After seeing myself in the mirror in the restroom, I suddenly got these two impressions:
1. All clothes make me look as fat as I am!
2. I hope I get to see the day when my age is more than my waist size!!!
