Siruthai Movie review – Sorry.

In my continuing tradition of watching Tamannah's movie in theatres, I watched Siruthai yesterday evening at Sathyam. The movie was released over the Pongal weekend and stars Karthi as the male lead with Tamannanh cast as his love interest.

Basically, the move is a remake of the Telugu movie Vikramarkudu, starring Ravi Teja and Anushka. I have seen bits and pieces of this Telugu movie during the hours of mindless TV surfing I indulge in during the weekends. There was something interesting about the Telugu movie
and that was not simply because of Anushka's presence.

The Tamil version, Siruthai, comes out as a frame-by-frame remake of the original. The other interesting part is that, even most of the characters have been brought over from the Telugu master copy. And this includes even their costumes, mannerisms and even the location and sets.

The first half of this movie is really entertaining with Santhanam and Karthi to some extent, making the audience guffaw quite often. But once the flashback sets in, the narration gets quite slow and hampers the proceedings. I think, the Director could have tried to have both stories going in parallel and that may have kept the tempo intact.

Again, having seen the original, I felt Ravi Teja had done a far better job than Karthi. I feel Karthi's repertoire of emotions includes a smirk and a plain face. His dancing skills are still not up to the mark. And usually, all movie heroes look really smart when they appear as Policemen and in my opinion, Karthi is the first one to break this trend. His face doesn't have the necessary maturity for the முடிக்கி விட்ட மீசை look of a Police officer.

Tammu rocked as usual. She's getting gorgeous by the day. The critics and reviewers would define her role as a “blink-and-you-will-miss-role”, but when she's on screen, I just don't blink, so it doesn't matter to me.

But all-in-all, yet another bad movie!
