If you visit this link you will be presented with a slew of adjectives listed under one word. Most of those, match my opinion of this movie.
Story - Simple and superb. Pretty much like the previous Shrek movies.
Animation - Stunning. Mind-blowing. Like one character said in a Tamizh movie many years ago "Technology has improved so much".... The attention to detail was especially praise worthy - like when they are on the ship, you could see ripples on the sea, the water was foaming at the hull of the boat (not sure if its hull, but the rear end of the ship is what I am getting at) and then Shrek, Donkey and Puss in Boots all have their hair and fabric moving to the breeze. It was so cool.
Music - Super cool.
Comedy - Ultimate. Donkey was very subdued in this edition compared to the previous two. Puss in Boots got a heavier role.
Characters - This one is practically like an All-Star meeting of the Fairy Tale World. Here again, the way Sleeping Beauty constantly went to sleep or when Snow White went singing and all the animals and birds started coming in (adapted from the Disney B&W classic) or when Pinocchio started talking like our Visu just to avoid telling the truth without having his nose elongated or when the Frog King says his last words - the over-acting (Sic) will put many an Indian thespian to shame, etc etc. The best though, was in the scene after Donkey and Puss get themselves interchanged and Donkey tries the droopy eyed look.
All in all it was a great movie. We watched it in the super suave 6 Degrees theatre at Satyam. The ambiance was very nice. Super seats, with padding even on the arm rest. Wide seats too.
BUT - there had to be one - there was this small group of nincompoops who were sitting in the first row and were behaving like true front-benchers right through the movie. So much of clapping and whistling. Cat calls too. I would in fact go to the extent of saying that there was more noise from this set of 4-6 guys, than when I watched Sivaji with my colleagues at Mayajal. Must have been an interesting experience for the 4 manja mandais who were sitting next to us.
But still, we came out with a real happy feeling of having watched a great movie. I wont mind watching it once more. :)
On an unrelated note, as an extension to Ramadurai's coincidence talk during our return home on Friday (which I've asked him to blog for me to respond), here is my bit:
The last movie I saw was Fantastic Four which was seen by the 4 of us (yours truly, Nilu, Raghu and wife) - 4 people for a movie with 4 in the title.
Today's movie was Shrek the Third - watched by 3 of us (yours truly, Raghu and wife) - 3 people for a movie with 3 in the title.
Inspired by Seinfeld, this blog is really about nothing. Possibly an insight into the mundane life of an Indian Software Testing Professional.

Happy Feet - good movie
Finally, I got to watch the movie Happy Feet. We have been trying to see it, but due to scheduling conflicts (yeah right) or preferences of seats and theatres by Superthumby effectively delayed the D-day.
When all things came good last Saturday, Neeluking couldn't make it for the evening show. Since he skipped his morning Yoga class, Guruji promptly called him up and asked him to attend a session that evening.
So our Mukundan had to step in for him. After much delay and seemingly never-ending phone calls of "where are you?", I finally got into the theatre some 5 minutes after the picture started.
But didn't miss much actually. The movie was really really good. Probably a little bit too much of song and dance at one point, but that can probably be the only teeny weeny bit of complaint I have.
Robin Williams, though he is not the voice over for the main character, has done a great job. It was simply superb.
And the animation quality was stunning. The depiction of the penguins and the sea were really amazing.
All in all, a great movie and me happy on my feet that I didn't miss it. :D

Cars - the movie
Saw Cars today. And as usual, it was preceded by some brilliant decision making within our group. We wanted to see it in Sathyam complex, after the bulb we got at Mayajaal on Sunday. So when I checked their website last night, they disclosed that the 2 rows in front of the screen were only available. We then took a decision at 12.05 AM that we will go to Mayajaal earlier and get the tickets there.
Surprisingly, we did reach there earlier than we normally do and got tickets. BUT, the seats were in the 3rd row from the screen. So, technically, we did get better seats than at Sathyam. :)
Coming to the movie - It was absolutely fantabulousticly awesome. Pixar has done an amazing job yet again. The animation is so good in some places that it almost looks like shots taken with a regular movie camera. The storyline was simple. The animation was mind-boggling. The dialogues were crisp. Very witty. I was laughing throughout the movie to the point of crying. And the folks who have lent their voice - great job by them too.
All in all, a really really cool movie. I think I might place it in the top 5 movies I like.
