2 events in the last week that are so typically a case of 'only me possible'. I logged one of these in my blog space at work too.
1. Last Monday - July 3 - I had to switch on the fan above my desk in the office. So I walked around to the switchboard and found 17 switches lined up next to each other. There were 12 more which had a round knob next to each. So inspired by Sherlock, I deduced that the latter set were for the fans. But, my intuition failed me right there. I didnt know which one was mine. I tried one after the other. After 11 such unsuccessful attempts, the correct switch presented itself by process of elimination!
2. This is a bit more complex. I was on the first floor, but in a different wing from mine. So when I reached the stairs to go down, I was surprised to see tarpaulin sheets laid out on the stairs, almost giving it a carpeted look. I walked down a few steps and found that the other flight of stairs too had this sheet. So I came back up and checked with a security guard nearby. He assured me that the stairs were in a good condition and I could use them.
With this assurance, I climbed down with a little difficulty. The way these stairs are designed, they lead directly to a section on the side of the building - the smoker's zone. To get back to the main lobby, one has to make a 180 degree turn from the last step.
Me being a bit famished and since I was anyway headed to the food court, I thought I'd take the shortcut through the smoker's zone. I pushed the door and realised that it was locked. Apparently, the smokers go there through a different route. Luckily no one saw this (to the best of my knowledge).
So, I had to go thru the lobby and started my journey towards it. Possibly due to my hunger I was walking faster than usual and was now presented with another door to enter the lobby. This too was a full glass door and I was looking straight ahead and pushed the door.
The door somehow did not move that much. I also heard some metallic noise and also felt the door banging against something. What was it? There seems to have been a small metal pedastal with a board that said 'Door Locked'. Since the board was turned towards the lobby, I just didnt see it and caused all this commotion.
This time I was noticed by a handful of people, but luckily or unluckily no significant person was there. I did have some grinning to do especially to the helper staff.
