Why does a woman wear her ID card on the road?

For many women, I think, wearing the ID card is part of their dressing routine at home.

Irrespective of whether she is a student or an employee, many girls/women seem to be at perfect ease wearing their ID card, even before entering the campus where it is actually required.

Considering the kind of abuse most of them face in crowded places, I find it quite shocking that they have the courage to wear their ID card in full view of the very same scoundrel whom they think is going to behave in an indecent manner with them.

Many men also wear their ID cards from home itself, but at least they have a pocket in their shirt where they can park it away from the prying eye. But the normal Saree or salwar clad woman does not have that luxury and yet, what makes her wear that card outside the campus? Why does she want to let that "road-side Romeo" know what her name is and where she works/studies? Does she think that wearing it while entering the campus would actually realign all the arrangements she has done - hair style, make-up, pinned up dhuppattas etc. - and God forbid if she looked bad for that 5 minute duration between the gate and the rest room?

Or is she really that bold enough to face any challenge from an eve teaser or is she just silly enough to wear it on the road?
